Criminal Record Check Information

With Fall approaching the Maidstone RCMP Detachment would like to provide some information to make the process of obtaining a Criminal Record Check a bit easier.

To obtain a Criminal Record Check you will need to complete the necessary forms at the RCMP Detachment, provide two pieces of valid government issued identification, and may have to pay a fee.

People who volunteer or have jobs where they are in positions of trust or authority over children or vulnerable persons can be asked to obtain a vulnerable sector check, which is a criminal records check plus a check to see if a person has had a record suspension (pardon) for sexual offences. To obtain a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check you will need to complete the necessary forms at the RCMP Detachment, provide two pieces of valid government issued identification, may have to pay a fee, and must provide a letter from the agency or group you will be working with. The letter must contain your name and thoroughly explain the reason why a Vulnerable Sector Check is required. By law, the RCMP are only allowed to complete these checks within specific circumstances and this letter is required for us to complete this check.

When obtaining a Criminal Record Check you may be asked to provide a set of fingerprints. This is a requirement when the person applying has a similar name and/or birthdate to a person with a known criminal record.

Government issued ID is considered a driver's license, health card, PAL, etc. We cannot accept SIN Cards due to privacy issues.

A Criminal Record Check fee is required depending on the type of employment.

You can call the RCMP Detachment to confirm if you will need to pay a fee and how to provide payment. Criminal Record Checks for volunteer positions are free.
