Farmers & Food Prices Report

Farmers & Food Prices Report
We are also pleased to share APAS's newly released 2026 Farmers & Food Prices Report, which examines the relationship between farm-level commodity prices and retail food costs.

  • Farmers are receiving a shrinking share of the food dollar, with declines across more than half of the food products tracked—despite high grocery prices.
  • Commodity prices are not driving food inflation—the report shows a persistent disconnect between farm-level prices and what consumers pay at the store.
  • Both producers and consumers are under pressure, with farmers facing rising input costs while grocery prices remain elevated across the supply chain.
  • Transparency in the food system remains a key issue, with APAS continuing to call for better insights into where costs accumulate between the farm gate and retail.

The report continues to show that while consumers are paying more at the grocery store, the share of the food dollar returning to farmers is declining for many products. This work was initiated through a member resolution and is an example of how APAS works on behalf of its membership to advance producer-driven priorities.
