Strychnine Supply Update
At the beginning of the summer, Agromax Distributors anticipated receiving enough raw material for all participating RMs to receive a supply of 2% Liquid Strychnine Concentrate. Unfortunately, ongoing supply and shipping delays prevented the product from arriving, and the RM of Wilton did not receive any product for the 2026 application season.
Agromax has advised that it has been working for several weeks to secure shipments of the required raw material from India. According to the supplier, India is experiencing hardships related to the war in the Middle East. Soaring energy prices have limited the number of shipments leaving the country, and extreme weather conditions have caused further delays.
As a result, the raw material will not arrive in time for the product to be distributed before the September 1 application deadline.
Thank you to everyone who completed the required training course and submitted the necessary paperwork in preparation for receiving the product. We recognize the time and effort this required and regret that the supply issues prevented the product from being made available.
Agromax will continue trying to secure the raw material later this year. Its current plan is to distribute the product during the winter to municipalities with appropriate storage facilities so it will be available for the spring 2027 season, anticipated to run from February through April.
The RM will also continue to advocate for the longer-term approval and availability of strychnine as an effective tool for controlling gophers.
We will provide a further update once a shipment has been confirmed and distribution details are available.
We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.
